Residents of the Graysland and Kingsgrove Estate were shocked recently to discover that the Athy Local Area Plan (LAP) which should have been completed three years ago, is now in the process of being decided and finalised in the midst of the pandemic.

The plan lays out how all development in Athy will be carried out between 2021 and 2027.

Once the decisions are made residents will have little or no say in what happens in relation to future developments.

Any objections to any future plans could result in the objectors being told that the development is in accordance with the Athy Local Area Plan, so the objections, however real, are not valid.

A major concern is that it appears nobody knows about the plans.

Many feel that the council and public representatives should be doing more to communicate with the residents on how the Athy Local Area Plan may impact on their homes and lives.

Residents cannot examine the plans as the library is closed because of the pandemic.
